Conductive Education Day in North America 2013

ACENA has announced the date for next year's Conductive Education Day in North America. This is 21st February.

ACENA says:

The 4th “National Conductive Education Day” will be celebrated on Thursday, February 21, 2013! This day is a great opportunity to increase awareness of Conductive Education and promote your program locally.

Once again this year, ACENA will be offering its members a customizable Campaign Kit. In addition, the kit is one of the new Center Membership benefits. It is designed to help your advocacy work, and includes eight files:

a cover letter from ACENA’s president;

a detailed guide of how to use the campaign kit documents;

templates for a letter to editors, proclamation request, testimonials, and press release; and,

a pamphlet and poster that promotes CE.

Doing a project? New book available to help

 I have found out about a new book for those doing a research project . This is A Beginner's Guide to Doing Your Education Research Project by Mike Lambert and more can be found out about the book and its author at
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Beginners-Guide-Education-Research-Project/dp/0857029819/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1350480170&sr=1-1

I know students can sometimes struggle with doing this part of their course and it can be quite intimidating. In this book all aspects of doing a research project are covered by  simple explanations and helpful suggestions. Planning, doing, writing up, choosing the subject, completing the literature review, for example are all covered.

If I was still working in an academic library I would be suggesting this to students to borrow - or even buy.

More can be found out about the book and its author at

More about the new András Pető book

Whilst in Hong Kong for the World Congress on Conductive Education in December 2009 it ocurred to me that the little that was known about  András Pető was scattered around in various different places. Why not bring it all together in a book? For the last eighteen months we have been doing just that and along the way managed to get three previously unpublished papers and facsimiles of  a exam booklet and poems by Pető for inclusion in the book. These were the icing on the cake!

Getting all this collected, edited and ready for publication took longer than expected and publication a fortnight ago of  András Pető was a day of celebration for Conductive Education Press.

Copies of this are now being read and comments coming in. Yesterday Susie Mallett blogged her thoughts about it which can be read at

and says her favourite piece is the one  by Júlia Dévai , which was specially written for the book. (Júlia also very kindly allowed us to reproduce the exam booklet and poems from her personal archive.) Her piece is my favourite too. It brings alive the time when Pető's conductive pedagogy was slowly emerging, in great detail, a  fascinating account.

I wonder what other readers of the book are deciding  are their favourites.

Please do write and let us know.

András Pető book resume now in Portuguese

Word is spreading about the new book,  András Pető, and a Portuguese translation of the blurb on the back of the book can be found on Letitia Kuerten's blog at  http://educacaocondutiva.blogspot.co.uk/

See below:

Copies of the book can be orered from http://www.blurb.co.uk/bookstore/detail/3575875

Thanks very much, Letitia, for spreading the word in this way.

There may be more of such translations to come, and I will blog any that I receive.
